Over the past few years Northern Bank worked with charities such as Action Cancer, NSPCC, Chest Heart and Stroke, Macmillan Cancer Support and Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.
Our Charity Partner for 2011 was Ulster Cancer Foundation and we've decided to continue our relationship until December 2012, our support includes staff and customer fundraising, Northern Bank Sports & Social Club fundraising.
The Ulster Cancer Foundation rose to the top of our staff survey and panel presentations and is a local charity that helps to save lives and enhance the quality of life of everyone affected by cancer.
Their vision is to see a future when cancer will be a condition to be managed, rather than a life threatening disease.
During this year a staggering 55,000 Northern Ireland families will be affected by cancer. Cancer has an overwhelming and often devastating impact on the entire family unit.
Family Support Service
In 2011 and 2012, Northern Bank will be supporting the Ulster Cancer Foundation's Family Support Service for children and young people in a family where a significant adult has cancer. When cancer arrives, it hits the whole family. No family should have to cope alone.
The Family Support Service provides a vital lifeline to children and young people when a central family member such as a parent or grandparent is diagnosed with cancer. Many children find it difficult to understand what is happening and they often feel distressed, isolated and frightened about the dramatic changes in their lives.
This can have a colossal and life altering affect on their experiences of school, relationships and their ongoing development.
Around 80% of children believe that their parent’s cancer diagnosis is their fault and they find it difficult to talk about how they feel.
The Family Support Service gives children and families extra support, the courage to talk about cancer, and helps them deal with the unthinkable together.
All funds raised by Northern Bank staff and customers are matched pound for pound by the Bank.
