Release of goods

The goods sometimes arrive before the documents. If they are consigned to Northern Bank, the importer can take possession of the goods if Northern Bank releases them.

By having the goods released, the importer makes a commitment to approve and pay against the documents, whether or not they conform to the conditions of the documentary credit.
