Security and Northern eBanking
Northern Bank aims to provide self-service solutions with a very high level of security. This of course applies to Northern eBanking. Northern eBanking's security system builds upon three general security principles:
  • The identification and transmission of data in such a way that unauthorised persons do not gain access to your personal data in Northern eBanking.
  • The protection of data by means of SSL so that unauthorised persons cannot read data during transmission between your browser and Northern Bank.
  • Electronic verification of financially binding transactions so that data cannot be changed during transmission between your browser and Northern Bank, thus also ensuring that only you can execute account transfers and similar transactions.
Compliance with these three principles gives a level of security that meets the highest standards for online banking systems.

Outside of Northern eBanking, you should follow normal precautions in your use of the Internet. This includes installing the necessary browser updates from the software manufacturer.

Two security systems
With Northern eBanking, you can use either of two security systems: e-Safekey and ActivCard. With both systems, communications are protected by SSL encryption and a communication control device that together ensure that
  • you can see that you are communicating with the Bank
  • the Bank can identify you before the transmission of confidential information about your business with the Bank
  • unauthorised persons cannot "break into" the communications
