Visitors to our Web site
When you visit our Web site, you leave an electronic trail. The trail is created when your browser sends information to a server, for instance that you want to access www.northernbank.co.uk. The electronic trail you leave when you visit our Web site informs us of:
- the pages you looked at on our site and when you did this
- the browser you use, for instance, Internet Explorer
- the resolution of your screen, for instance, 1024 x 768 pixels
- your operating system, for instance, Windows 98
- the Web site you viewed before you accessed our site
- your IP address (Internet protocol address) which is the number that identifies data sent and received on the Internet

We use this information only to process operations and to create statistics that help us improve our Web site for your benefit.
Use of personal information
You do not need to register to access most of our Web site pages. However, if you register for our Internet banking services (eBanking or Business eBanking), any details you provide may be stored for use on future visits so that you do not have to give us any information more than once.
The details you give us may be combined with information about your use of the Northern Bank Limited Web site and also information from our other records, as detailed above in the section "What information do we hold?" in order to provide you with online services you request.
If you register, we will treat you as having consented to our using your personal data in the manner described in this Privacy and Security Policy. If you do not register, the personal data we collect from you will be limited to that which you give us in order to process your request and we will use that data only to fulfil that request.
We respect the privacy of personal email accounts and we store your email addresses just as securely as other personal information. We will not send you unwanted email messages or junk mail, and your details will not be passed to any organisation outside Danske Bank Group without your explicit permission.

Right of access to your information
If you want to know what personal information Northern Bank Limited holds about you, you have a right to request a copy of that information (subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 for UK Customers). If it transpires that the information held is inaccurate, we will make the necessary amendments and confirm to you that these have been made. Please write to the Manager, Handling Services Department, at the registered address enclosing a cheque for the administration fee of £10 made payable to Northern Bank Limited.
How we protect your data
When you register your details and are logged into our Internet banking system (eBanking or Business eBanking), we use a secure server. Any data you give us is encrypted using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) session. SSL is an industry standard and is a way to secure internet messages, so they are not easily intercepted. You should be aware, however, that some older browsers cannot use SSL. If your browser does not support 128 bit encryption (or higher), you will not be able to log into or use our Internet banking service.

Messages sent through enquiry forms on our web pages, and messages sent and received via the message service when you are logged into your accounts via our Internet banking system are secured through encryption. However, standard e-mails are not an encrypted channel, and for this reason we ask that you do not include confidential information (such as bank account details) when using them.
While we use SSL encryption to protect user information online, we will use all reasonable endeavours to protect user information off-line. However, any personal details or other information entered onto or submitted through the site or by email to Northern Bank Limited is entered or transmitted at the user's risk and Northern Bank Limited shall not be liable for any such information being intercepted or accessed by any third party without the knowledge of Northern Bank Limited or any of its employees or agents.

Any external links to other Web sites are clearly identifiable as such, and we are not responsible for the privacy policies or the contents of these other Web sites.
As a result of improvements we make to our services, amendments to laws or regulations, or developments in the technology or processes we use, we may change the information we hold about you and/or the way in which, or the purposes for which, we process such information. Where we require your consent to such change,
we will notify you of the change. However, unless you inform us otherwise, we will deem that your continued receipt of products and services to which the change relates constitutes your consent to the change in question.
