Whether you are employed as a manager, specialist or adviser, or in some completely different capacity, you can expect us to take an interest in your development. When planning your development, we take account of your current situation, assignments, expertise and skills. We are a large employer, but we always remember that each person is different and has different development requirements.

More than just courses
Our philosophy is that employee development can take many different forms. We can offer professional courses, development and management training. We also work closely with external course providers and educational establishments.
Development involves much more than sitting people down at a desk. It is just as important to provide specific assignments that are challenging and that prepare our employees to take on greater responsibility. As well as providing you with a challenging role, you will have the opportunity to apply for other jobs internally – either where you already work or to another part of the organisation.
Joining us
All staff joining Northern Bank undergo a comprehensive induction and training programme. For Service Advisers the formal induction training will last up to nine days and will be followed by specific on-the-job training in your designated business unit.
Individual development plan
Your opportunities depend on your capabilities and naturally these are matched to your expressed wishes for your future career.
Every employee has an individual development plan, regardless of their role and position. Your development plan is updated once a year at the appraisal meeting with your immediate manager. For the rest of the year, you and your manager are responsible for ensuring your continuous development through ongoing dialogue.
