Gross Interest is the rate of interest payable before the deduction of income tax at the rate specified by law (currently 20%). AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and illustrates what the rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year. EAR stands for Effective Annual Rate and takes account of the rate of interest charged, the frequency it is levied and compounding of interest. Interest is applied quarterly. Rates correct as at 14th April 2008.
